Invitation from Citizens’ Assembly

Since this post is about Single Transferable Vote, BC-STV, it’s a change of pace for this blog. However, prominent Garden City Lands supporters Harold Steves, Michael Wolfe, and Neil Smith are active in it. I was contacted about it by Nick Loenen, former Richmond councillor and MLA, who is another vocal defender of the Lands.

There will be a public information meeting about BC Citizens’ Assembly and BC-STV on Tuesday, December 9, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Tapestry Christian Reformed Church, 9280 No. 2 Road, Richmond. The speaker is Craig Henschel. Visit www.STV.ca and/or come to Nick’s gathering on June 9.

I think you might have your dates wrong, I assume you mean December

Thanks, Bernard! June would be six months late, which is too late for affecting the STV vote. The post, which previously stated the wrong month, now correctly says “December 9.”

Also (a comment added later), thank you to Craig Henschel for a great presentation and Nick Loenen and to the Tapestry Christian Reformed Church for hosting the event.

This is really important. It’s a rare chance for concrete, positive reform, and we all need to be sure we can make an informed choice on May 12.

The reason we have so much trouble getting public policy that reflects the public will is that our voting system is a broken telephone that distorts the message we send to our legislators.
